Allied Printing Services Announces Acquisition of XL Color Corporation

Manchester, Connecticut – [December 2023] – Allied Printing Services, a leading 74-year-old privately held commercial printing and direct mail business, proudly announces its acquisition of XL Color Corporation, based in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Allied Printing Services has cultivated a strong partnership with XL Color over 15 years of collaboration. By merging the two complimentary companies, Allied has greatly expanded capacity in the production of retail point-of-purchase materials, trade show signage, event banners, and more. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s growth trajectory, and diversified offering of products and services.

Allied’s President & Owner John Sommers, Jr. commented, “Allied has a rich history of expanding our capabilities and services to meet the needs of our customers and the marketplace overall. We have evolved over the years by adding web offset presses, perfect binding, envelope converting, UV printing and coating, film lamination, mailing services, variable data programming, fulfillment and web hosting, sustainable energy through solar power generation and fuel cells, robust IT security, and high-volume variable digital print. The next step in Allied’s growth is here and now: expanding our capacity and capabilities in the “digital wide format” space with our addition of XL COLOR is something we are very excited about.”

Sommers remarked on the unique nature of this acquisition: “What makes this even more meaningful to me personally is the ‘people aspect’. In our long and mutually successful history of collaboration key personnel on both sides recognized the similarities in culture. By purchasing XL Color and bringing their talent to Allied Printing Services, our customers will benefit greatly from the synergies of shared values, exceptional people, and faster speed to market. We were able to assist the former owner of XL Color in transitioning to retirement while preserving the jobs of his loyal employees and maintaining a high level of quality and service for their customers. This really is a win-win for all parties involved.”

All former XL Color personnel, capabilities, and cutting-edge equipment have seamlessly transitioned to Allied Printing Services’ manufacturing headquarters at 1 Allied Way in Manchester, Connecticut.
